Welcome to the incredible world of Leonora Carrington!
Join us at Milktooth over 8 weeks as we explore the life and work of Mexican surrealist, Leonora Carrington. Born in England, she traveled the world before settling in to live and work in Mexico. Her painting and sculptural works combine magic symbolism, fantastical landscapes and curious characters to create dream-like imagery.
Each session of the 8 week course will see students exploring a different aspect of her life through a creative project, learning new skills and gaining new knowledge along the way.
Her book ‘The Milk of Dreams’ will be used as inspiration to make our own book of mysterious and fantastical animals and her sculpture ‘La Cuna (The Cradle)’ will be studied as we make our own small 3-D dreamboat filled with small magical creatures. Classes will include a ‘warm-up’ challenge each week that will emphasise the importance of discovery and play in the art making process.
Through learning about Carrington’s life we will gain an understanding of the post-war conditions that surrounded the emergence of the surrealists. The surrealists used fun, unpredictable processes to produce surprising, unexpected imagery in their artwork
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
