✨The Art and Science of Maria Merian✨
This term we will be using a range of pen and ink techniques, watercolour techniques and embroidery while we study the famous botanical illustrations of the scientist and artist Maria Sibyl Merian. She was famous for documenting the metamorphosis of insects at a time when those around her believed insects emerged from the mud.
Her luminous and detailed studies of the life cycles of plants, flowers, bugs and butterflies will be looked at in detail as we work on our own pen and ink line studies, watercolour tonal studies, calligraphy scientific labels and finally a fluffy and silky embroidered 3D textile moth/butterfly.
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
Saturday morning session runs at 9.30am – 11.00am from the 15th of October until the 3rd of December
Thursday afternoon session runs at 4.00pm – 5.30pm from the 20th of October until the 8th of December
This course is recommended for ages 7+
