Frida Kahlo Nichos – Giving Thanks
In Crafternoon this term we will be looking at the beloved and hugely influential artist Frida Kahlo. We will look at her collection of votive paintings and Nichos which inspired her own work.
Nichos are a type of bright and colourful Mexican folk art which resemble small dioramas. They are often devotional but sometimes merely fun and are intended to symbolise a prayer or a wish to give thanks to some good fortune.
We will talk about our good fortune and what we might like to devote our thanks to in our own work. Students will be encouraged to let their inventiveness run wild with access to a huge range of craft materials for their dioramas. Our Nichos will be completed with tin doors and so students will need to consider the element of surprise in their work too.
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
Saturday afternoon session runs at 1.30pm – 3.00pm from the 23rd of July until the 17th of September
