Welcome to the incredible world of Giovanna Garzoni!
Join us at Milktooth over 8 weeks as we explore the life and work of the Italian artist, Giovanna Garzoni. Born in 1600, she became well known for highly prized paintings of the natural world and is seen by many as the Queen Bee of her time.
Through a combination of paper crafting blossoms and drawing various fruits from observation we will learn about the flowers and life cycle of citrus fruits, pears and cherries. (students are welcome to take home their fruit to eat) During the course students will look carefully at the realistic painting techniques used by Garzoni as well as make a small vase for their sculpted paper blossoms to be displayed in.
As we learn about Garzoni’s life we will gain an understanding of the scientific discoveries at the time including the shock revelation that many insect colonies are run by the female of the species and so are ruled by Queens and not Kings!
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
