Welcome to the incredible world of Mary Anning!

Join us at Milktooth as we spend two days exploring the life and work of one of the most important scientists of all time, Mary Anning. Born on the Southern coast of England, she spent her years tirelessly exploring the sea-side cliffs, excavating, interpreting and documenting the prehistoric fossils she found. Anning’s contributions to paleontology revolutionised our understanding of the deep past and the history of our planet.

Over two days we will discover different aspects of her life through a variety of creative projects, learning new skills and gaining new knowledge along the way.

Our small class size of only 10, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome

In Crafternoon we will be focusing on tactile, sculptural processes that engage the senses, help develop dimensional reasoning and fine motor skills. We’ll be using wet felting techniques to craft the strange Cyanobacteria that Anning recorded, stitch soft fabric recreations of prehistoric Trilobites, carefully sculpt fossil bones out of polymer clay and much more.

At the end of the masterclass, the completed works will be curated into a two panel, textile diorama ready to hang up at home.

All materials and an afternoon tea fruit platter will be provided for each day. Please bring a nut free snack and lunch as well as a water bottle.
