Welcome to the incredible world of Leonora Carrington!
Join us at Milktooth as we spend two days exploring the life and work of Mexican surrealist, Leonora Carrington. Born in England, she traveled the world before settling in to live and work in Mexico. Her painting and sculptural works combine magic symbolism, fantastical landscapes and curious characters to create dream-like imagery.
Her book ‘The Milk of Dreams’ will be used as inspiration to make our own book of mysterious and fantastical animals and her sculpture ‘La Cuna (The Cradle)’ will be studied as we make our own small 3-D dreamboat filled with small magical creatures. Classes will include a ‘warm-up’ challenge that will emphasise the importance of discovery and play in the art making process.
Through learning about Carrington’s life we will gain an understanding of the post-war conditions that surrounded the emergence of the surrealists. The surrealists used fun, unpredictable processes to produce surprising, unexpected imagery in their artwork
Our small class size of only 10, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
All materials and an afternoon tea fruit platter will be provided for each day. Please bring a nut free snack and lunch as well as a water bottle.
