✨Maria Merian’s Magical Metamorphosis✨
Join us for Crafternoon this term as we explore the incredible discoveries and artworks of German naturalist, scientific illustrator and explorer, Maria Sibylla Merian.
Merian was known far and wide for her detailed and accurate representations of the natural world. From humble caterpillars to dazzling butterflies, from unassuming eggs to extravagant birds, from seed to flower and flower to fruit – Merian’s work is beautiful as well as being instructive about the life cycles of the natural world
Using a range of textile processes we will sculpt creatures from these life cycles that can live in a specimen jar. On top of these specimen jars we will let our imaginations run wild as we embroider and stitch to create the magical dream world we imagine the inhabitant might have.
Our small class size of only 12, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
