PAINTING AND TEXTILES
Join us for this two-day masterclass with award-winning artist Elizabeth Marruffo as we use painting and textiles to explore the incredible discoveries and artworks of German naturalist, Maria Merian.
In this two-day masterclass, we’ll be using textiles to craft specimen-jar dioramas that depict the habitats and life-cycles of the natural world. From humble caterpillars to dazzling butterflies from unassuming eggs to extravagant birds, from seed to flower and flower to fruit.
We will also learn how to complete detailed illustrations, like Merian, of stunning floral arrangements and startling insects. Classically trained painter, Elizabeth Marruffo will show you how to prepare surfaces, arrange compositions and transfer images. Mixing tonal values, laying down colour and applying sealing coats will all be explored.
Our small class size of only 10, means that each student will get the feedback and attention they need in order to achieve their best outcome.
All materials and an afternoon tea fruit platter will be provided for each day. Please bring a nut free snack and lunch as well as a water bottle.
