Junior Art Classes with Elizabeth Marruffo

Botanical Illustrations and Edible Art

Saturdays 1.30pm – 3pm, 8 x 1.5hr lessons.
Beginning on Saturday 28th of October to the 16th of December.
This course is suitable for primary school age children.

In term 4 we are looking at the life and times of scientist and storyteller Beatrix Potter. We will be growing our own seedlings and mushrooms and documenting their progress using a variety of painting mediums. These closely observed illustrations will be collected into individual field journals. We will use potatoes to do some printmaking with as well as illustrate the growth cycle of this incredible plant.

We will learn about the plants that give us a wide variety of edible pigments. Using these pigments we will create hand painted biscuits and cakes wrapped up in custom designed paper to take home and share.

Class sizes are limited to 8 students in order to ensure that each student receives individual help, feedback, and attention. High quality materials are used, and an emphasis is placed on drawing out the unique vision and ability of each child in a fun and supportive environment.

3D Embroidery and Edible Art

Saturdays, 3.15pm – 4.45pm, 8 x 1.5hr lessons.
Beginning on Saturday 28th of October to the 16th of December.
This course is suitable for primary school age children with an interest in fibre textiles.

In term 4 we are looking at the life and times of scientist and storyteller Beatrix Potter. We will research and imagine our own botanical landscape as we take our embroidery skills to the next level. We will look closely at small details in the natural world and make our own botanically influenced beads to add to our embroidered world.

We will learn about the plants that give us a wide variety of edible pigments. Using these pigments we will create hand painted biscuits and cakes wrapped up in custom designed paper to take home and share.

The Textiles and Fibre Art course is especially tactile and helps develop precise hand-eye coordination skills. The focus this term is to develop embroidery skills and techniques.

Comics making with Campbell Whyte

Saturdays, 10.00am – 11:30pm, 6 x 1.5hr lessons.
Beginning on Saturday 11th of November to the 16th of December.

This course is suitable for primary school age children with an interest in comics making.

In term 4, we will be investigating the incredible world of ancient Greek mythology. From Hercules to Hydra and back again.

Over the 6 week course, students will each choose a Greek myth that they would like to adapt into comic format. We will learn how to analyse stories and break them down into their beats, study character motivation and how to express it through illustration.

At the end, students should have a mini-comic of their own to take home.

This project will help develop collaborate story telling skills, imagination and technical drawing skills.

Comics mentoring with Campbell Whyte

Saturdays, 11.45am – 1.15pm, 6 x 1.5hr lessons.
Beginning on Saturday 11th of November to the16th of December.

This course is suitable for secondary school students with an interest in comics making.

In this 6 week course, students will be encouraged to develop their own project and assisted with its production. Be it a fantasy tale of knights and sorcerers, a gritty tale of revenge or a suburban romance. Whatever the student has in mind, they will be given the opportunity to realise it.

The outcome will be a short sampler of their project. They will be provided with the materials and expert consultation needed to gain a deep understanding of what’s needed to finish a comic.

This course is ideal for students who independently create their own comics and have a strong passion for the medium.
