So so excited for our classes starting back up tom So so excited for our classes starting back up tomorrow! We took January off to work on our own projects which was amazing - but we missed our students and teaching a lot😭 We love our work and look forward to sharing this terms creative adventures 🥰 Here is a bit of the prep for our Advanced Art Marie Laurencin class, our Junior Art Louise Bourgeois class and Crafternoon Louise Bourgeois class ❤️💙❤️
It's happened! We've finally filled out comics no It's happened! We've finally filled out comics nook with courses and it's time to spill out into the next one. Each term we offer new courses that explore different genres, techniques and deep dives into the works of innovative and important mangaka. In breaking down these comics-skills for our students, we learn so much ourselves about this incredibly rich literary form. All our course-work is developed by us and our eight week courses aim to build up the skills and confidence of our students, regardless of the types of stories they ultimately want to tell. This term in Manga Club we're exploring the dynamic fantasy works of Rumiko Takahashi and in Comics Quest we'll be adapting traditional fairy tales. Next term? Yesterday we wrapped up our month long Comics Resi Yesterday we wrapped up our month long Comics Residency with a little open day. We got to talk about our projects, how they developed over the month and reflected on our strengthened community 💖 We then ran a couple of super fun comic making activities to encourage the comic maker in all of us. ✨Milktooth Comics Residency – Open Day✨ Thi ✨Milktooth Comics Residency – Open Day✨ This Summer we kick-started our very first comics residency! The residency was designed to help nurture and support local comics-makers as they undertake ambitious literary projects. Local artists worked together during January, providing feedback on one another’s projects and devoting dedicated studio time to their works. Now we’re opening the doors and inviting you behind the curtain to see some of the incredible projects we’ve been hard at work developing. During this Open Day you’ll hear from participants Elizabeth Marruffo, Campbell Whyte, Aśka, Sarah Winifred Searle, Kristina Turner and Soolagna Majumdar as they share how they go about making their comics. Then it’ll be time for you to sharpen your pencil as you’re lead on a comics-making activity with prompts to get you thinking differently about storytelling. Comics can be isolating to make, are often under-supported and usually take years to complete. It’s our hope that the Milktooth Comics Residency can help give local comics-makers the skills, networks and momentum to help see their projects through to completion. The Milktooth Comics Residency is part of our big dream for there to be a thriving, diverse and supportive Perth creative community. From our Milktooth courses, the annual Perth Comic Arts Festival that we help organise and ongoing networking events throughout the year, we hope to provide opportunities and pathways for artists and makers of all kinds. Sunday afternoon from 2.00pm – 4.00pm on the 29th of January. This course is recommended for ages 7+ through to adults!
